Getting there

Elephant Valley Lodge lies between the Chobe National Park in Botswana and the Matetsi wildlife conservancy, south of the Kazangula border crossing, within the Kasane Forest Reserve. It is a private game lodge situated adjacent to Chobe National Park, a mere 20 minutes outside of Kasane town.

Activities

Open-vehicle game drives explore the Chobe National Park riverbank at the unhurried pace of dawn and dusk, tracking fresh signs with experienced guides. Boat safaris along the Chobe River bring close encounters with elephants, hippos and riverine birdlife, and double as a floating photography hide. Victoria Falls day trips (Zimbabwean or Zambian side) run about an hour's drive away - guests typically depart after breakfast around 8:00 and return by 18:00.

What To Pack

Lightweight, breathable clothing for hot days plus a jacket or sweater for cool evenings and early mornings; a hat and sunglasses with UV protection; comfortable closed-toe shoes or boots for uneven terrain, and sandals for around the lodge; insect repellent; sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher); binoculars; a camera with spare batteries and memory cards; any personal medication; and a lightweight backpack for carrying it all on activities. The lodge has a curio shop if you forget anything.

Best Time To Visit

Dry season (April to October): animals gather around the Chobe River and the lodge's waterhole, with strong birdwatching as migratory species arrive; mornings and evenings can be chilly, so pack warm layers. Green season (November to March): the park turns lush, many animals give birth, and birdlife is abundant with dramatic skies for photography; daytime temperatures can exceed 40 degrees Celsius. Wildlife viewing is good year-round.
